THE DAKAR BIENNALE

The Dakar Biennale, also known as Dak'Art, is one of the main events of contemporary African art exclusively dedicated to artists living on and off the African continent. Established by the State of Senegal since 1989 with a first edition devoted to literature in 1990, it is reserved for contemporary art during the second edition in 1992 before being definitively in contemporary African creation from 1996. With variations depending on the edition, the event is composed of several events and exhibitions: international exhibition gathering artists and exhibitions of the diaspora, exhibitions of invited artists, tributes, exhibitions or exhibitions on specific themes and Dak'Art at the Campus, a project combining art and environment as part of a collaboration between artists and students. A festival off artists from various horizons in the exhibitions in Dakar, Saint-Louis and in the regions of Senegal. This thirteenth edition will be held from May 3 to June 2, 2018 in Dakar under the high patronage of the President of the Republic of Senegal and a major innovation with the opening of the Pavilion of Senegal which offers a showcase of choice of national creativity. It is placed under the Commissariat of Mr. Viyé Diba, major visual artist who will make a rigorous selection from what Senegal is full of plastic potential.
